Steven Soderbergh is back behind the camera with Magic Mike for what could be his third-last outing before retiring. The first trailer debuted last month and gave such a great look at the film, and now Lionsgate have uploaded the brilliant first UK trailer ahead of its release on our shores this summer. Starring Channing Tatum in the lead, the film is based on Tatum’s own experiences as a male stripper when he was younger, with Reid Carolin making his screenwriting debut. “Set in the world of male strippers, “Magic Mike” is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars Channing Tatum (“Dear John,” “Step Up”) in a story inspired by his real life. The film follows Mike (Tatum) as he takes a young dancer called The Kid (Pettyfer) under his wing and schools him in the fine arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money.” Alongside Tatum will be a great cast, headed up by Alex Pettyfer, Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough, Cody Horn, and of course, Matthew McConaughey. A new remake we’re actually excited about is WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, the reimagining of Jorge Michel Grau’s Mexican cannibalism drama by STAKE LAND’s Jim Mickle, and some solid performers have just been cast, with a few details about the storyline also coming to light.
Screen Daily reports that Riley Keough (pictured, from last month’s Tribeca Film Festival genre-blender JACK AND DIANE and the upcoming Orlando Bloom thriller THE GOOD DOCTOR), Julia Garner (who co-stars in THE LAST EXORCISM 2), AMERICAN PSYCHO’s Bill Sage and Wyatt Russell have landed parts in the movie, which transposes the action to the Catskills region of upstate New York. Keough and Garner play sisters in a secluded family that practices flesheating; when their mother, who had been their provider, dies, their father (Sage) forces them to take a more active role in their rituals. (In Grau’s film, it was the dad who dropped in the opening scene.) Russell plays a young deputy who’s in love with Keough’s character. WE ARE WHAT WE ARE, produced by Paris-based Memento Films International, begins shooting at the end of May and continues through the beginning of July. Source

Riley Keough is in the building. Based on the throng of autograph seekers descending on her at Friday night's premiere of her new movie, Jack and Diane, at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, the model-turned-actress doesn't need to rely on her rock 'n' roll heritage to make a name for herself in Hollywood: She's doing just fine on her own. The daughter of Lisa Marie Presley and Danny Keough—which makes her Elvis Presley's granddaughter—talked to E! News about her ascendant big-screen career, her attraction to werewolves and a little something she's involved in called Mad Max: Fury Road. In Jack and Diane, Riley plays the former, a tomboy who falls for a British teen on holiday in New York, and, as their sexual desire for each other awakens, both are plagued by supernatural visions of werewolves. Twilight it's not. But it's the first real lead role the blonde beauty has sunk her teeth into, a challenge she more than embraced by physically transforming herself for the character. "I like doing stuff that's not really like me in real life because it's more fun," the 22-year-old thesp tells E! News. "There was this fantasy element that was kind of cool. And when I initially read it, there was something cartoony, funny and quirky about it, but at the same time [the love story was] raw and real." Asked if she has ever considered following her mom and granddad into the music biz, Riley says she's content to focus on her film career. "It's never really been something I've been drawn to, but I played piano growing up. But not professionally. It's more something I enjoy," she tells us, adding by the way that her own musical tastes encompass pretty much everything but most recently she's been listening to rock and blues—artists like Van Morrison, Neil Young and Robert Johnson. Keough is excited about a supporting part she landed in Steven Soderbergh's upcoming male stripper comedy, Magic Mike, starring Channing Tatum and her real-life rumored fiancé Alex Pettyfer. She called working with the Oscar-winning filmmaker an "amazing" experience. But the project she's definitely looking forward to is George Miller's long-awaited Mad Max reboot, starring Tom Hardy in the Mel Gibson role and Charlize Theron, which is expected to start filming in Namibia within the next few months. Riley revealed she was cast in Fury Road but couldn't say much about the character she plays, other than she's female. Based on the way her star is rising, we presume she'll kick butt. Source

Teenage hormones are about to get hairy for Juno Temple and Riley Keough. Ha. Ha. Bradley Rust Gray’s teen romance “Jack & Diane” has long been offhandedly referred to “that lesbian werewolf movie”, and today Vulture has unveiled the first poster which further sticks to its monstrous metaphor. Keough and Temple play Jack and Diane, respectively, two teenage girls who meet in New York City and begin to fall in love right as Diane gets ready to leave the country a week later. As if that weren’t complicated enough, Diane begins to fear she may be turning into a werewolf. The first clip from the film, which also stars Jena Malone and Dane DeHaan, is below, along with the first poster. It premieres tomorrow night at the Tribeca Film Festival, and has a limited release date of June 1st. ( Read more... )

Delivering the virus thriller "Contagion" last year, kicking off 2012 with the lean Euro-flavored actioner "Haywire" and now lensing the psychological thriller "The Bitter Pill," Steven Soderbergh's ability and eagerness to jump from genre to genre is no surprise. But even his die hard fans were surprised by his decision to helm "Magic Mike." And now the first trailer has arrived to give everyone a taste of what he's been putting togther. Boasting a hunky cast led by Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey and Alex Pettyfer, the film is the brainchild of Tatum who is also producing and conceived of the story based on his own experiences as a male stripper. Penned by Reid Carolin, "Magic Mike" is the name of an experienced stripper (Tatum) who teaches a younger dancer (Pettyfer) how to hustle his wares on stage and off at the exotic club Xquisite, run by Dallas (McConaughey). Magic Mike is also eager to get out of the game and focus on his custom design business. We're told the film is a big crowd-pleaser -- for the ladies and dudes -- and the trailer certainly points in that direction. It's definintely the most mainstream effort Soderbergh has put together in years, but the framing and lensing still carries his trademark. That said, this is a whole different rhythm from the director, another testament to his abilities to move, shift and adapt from project to project. And across the board, the cast looks game and engaging as hell. Co-starring Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Gabriel Igelsias, Olivia Munn, Riley Keough, Betsy Brandt, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Cody Horn, "Magic Mike" opens on June 29th.SourceSource
